Take a Hike - Seward Style
From coastal strolls to summit scrambles, Seward’s trails serve up views that are 100% worth the effort. Think alpine lakes, glacier overlooks, and maybe even a mountain goat sighting. Lace up your boots—your next unforgettable hike starts here. Below are our favorite hikes in the area!

-
Exit Glacier Hike (2 miles roundtrip): EASY. A must-do while here in Seward! Just down the road from the cabins, this hike takes you right up to Exit Glacier and you can see where the river in front of us comes from.
-
Mt. Marathon Jeep Trail (4.1 miles roundtrip): MODERATE to DIFFICULT. You might have heard of the famous Mt. Marathon Race. This trail gets you to the same summit, but takes a scenic route (literally). We recommend this route due to the beautiful views, waterfalls, valleys, and amazing opportunities to stop and take in all of the beauty and sites. This hike gives you an aerial view of Seward and Resurrection Bay that can't be beat.
-
Tonsina Hike (4 miles roundtrip): MODERATE. This is a great, family friend hike located at Lowell Point. You walk through enchanting forest and will get you to a really cool beach that provides sweeping views of the bay and fun bridges to traverse. Highly recommend bringing a picnic to help enjoy the beach and views. Keep your eyes open for whales!
-
Lost Lake Trail (14 miles roundtrip): MODERATE hike, but long! From the trailhead closest to Seward (off of Scott's Way), it is 7miles to Lost Lake and back. While this is an epic hike, just going 2 miles up is rewarding. You will cross a waterfall, get views of the bay, and also see a really beautiful canyon.

What to Bring on Your Hike
-
Comfortable shoes
-
Water
-
Bear Bells and/or Bear Spray
-
Rain jacket (you never know)
-
Layers (going up will be hotter than coming down)
-
Mosquito Repellant
-
Snacks
Will I see bears? This is the number one question we get about hikes. Probably not. But there is a chance and we recommend everyone being prepared by bringing bear bells and/or talking throughout the hike (worst thing you can do is catch a bear by surprise) and bringing in bear spray.
